On Wednesday, Sept. 21, Sister Cordula Wekenburg and the rest of the mat makers group at the Sarah Community received the 2016 Mercy Award from the Archdiocese of St. Louis. The sisters and residents who received the award make sleeping mats for the homeless out of plastic bags cut into strips and then crocheted into mats. The mat making has extended beyond the Sarah Community, and countless others around St. Louis have started their own mat making groups. Bishop Robert Hermann presented the award, thanking the mat makers for their kindness and service. A Mass, award ceremony and reception were held to honor them. Congrats, sisters, and thank you for this incredible act of mercy!
