Our Spirituality

The Sarah Community’s Mission and Values are the cornerstone of our Faith-Based Life Plan Community, which guide the culture and lifestyle on our campus. Spirituality is important as we age. “…to live by faith is to walk not necessarily against reason, but beyond it.”
Addressing Our Spirituality as We Age Can Help Us To:
Find meaning in our past and current life experiences
Acknowledge our grief and loss to achieve inner peace
Increase our desire for play
Enhance our creativity
Our Spiritual Caregivers:
Sr. Ethyl Marie Biri and Sr. Rose Mercurio, Co-Directors of Mission Integration and Spiritual Care; Rev Victoria Brown, Parish Nurse; Father Pio Jackson, Priest

The Sarah Community, while founded in 1997 on Catholic principle, has an ecumenical approach to the celebration of life with faith and friends. Residents receive physical, emotional and spiritual care to nurture wellbeing. All faiths and spiritual beliefs are held in high regard. The Sarah Community welcomes residents, their family, and our staff to attend services such as regular Mass and Rosary, Weekly Bible Studies, Prayer Groups and regular Confession. Some other very popular programs include “Heavenly Hash”, hosted by Sr. Rose, and “Spiritual Paycheck”, hosted by Sr. Elaine, with the design intended to be part of life’s spiritual journey.
“Breaking Bread” is celebrated once a month when the community comes together for a meal that includes residents and staff. During the assembly conversation centers around our diverse experiences that will nurture the body and soul, as well as create bonds of friendship.
Another program about which residents rave is hosted by Rev. Victoria. “Walking with Naomi” is a fitness program that incorporates Bible study and history.
A beautiful Christmas Novena, Holy Days, Lenten and Feast Day celebrations are also conducted. The “Honor Cloth” ceremony is a unique and most reverent service. It takes place when a resident passes away, The Sarah Community residents, families, caregivers, and staff gather to accompany the body to the main lobby to say goodbye with a brief service of prayer and hymn. All who wish come together as one, strengthened by their love and respect for the resident who has passed.
