Our Spirituality

The Sarah Community’s Mission and Values are the cornerstone of our Faith-Based Life Plan Community, which guide the culture and lifestyle on our campus. Spirituality is important as we age. “…to live by faith is to walk not necessarily against reason, but beyond it.”
Addressing Our Spirituality as We Age Can Help Us To:
Find meaning in our past and current life experiences
Acknowledge our grief and loss to achieve inner peace
Increase our desire for play
Enhance our creativity
Our Spiritual Caregivers:
Jane A. Brown, OPA, MPS – Spiritual Care Coordinator
Father Pio Jackson OFM – Priest

The Sarah Community, while founded in 1997 on Catholic principle, has an ecumenical approach to the celebration of life with faith and friends. Residents receive physical, emotional, and spiritual care to nurture their wellbeing. All faiths and spiritual beliefs are held in high regard.

The Sarah Community welcomes residents, their family, and our staff to attend services such as regular Mass and Rosary, Bible Studies, Prayer Groups and regular Confession.  Weekly, a “Spiritual Paycheck” is offered to the Community by Jane Brown, OPA, via copies and email to encourage Spiritual reflection and support to Residents, Staff, and families.

BREAKING BREAD

Breaking Bread is an event that occurs once a month.  This provides the opportunity for residents, families, and staff to share a meal in our Assembly Rooms.  The meal is served buffet style.  Staff are eager to assist the residents in carrying their plates of food and drinks to a table and to enjoy the meal together.  Each month, the Breaking Bread has a different theme, which in turns suggests the type of meal that is served.  In June, a “Take me out to the Ballgame” theme provided Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Brats and of course, peanuts and popcorn.  Oh, and a special guest, “Fredbird”.

The “Honor Cloth” ceremony is a unique and most reverent service. It takes place when a resident passes away, The Sarah Community residents, families, caregivers, and staff gather to accompany the body to the main lobby to say goodbye with a brief Prayer Service. All who wish to do so, come together as one, strengthened by their love and respect for the resident who has passed away.

A Christmas Novena, Holy Days, Lenten and Feast Day celebrations are also conducted.
