BRIDGETON, MO – (January 9, 2013) – On Monday, December 10th, the first residents arrived at the new Anna House, located on the campus of SSM DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton. Greeted by staff, current residents, and women for the five founding orders, each person was warmly welcomed into their new home and serenaded with Christmas carols.
“Three years of planning lead up to the construction of six new households, caring for 106 seniors in a way not previously seen before in the St. Louis area,” said Diane Meatheany, Chief Operating Officer of St. Andrew’s Management Services. “It has been our pleasure to work with the Board of The Sarah Community, since 1997; we have a strong commitment to providing innovative, person centered care.”
Sr. Susan Scholl, Board President stated that, “The team has worked to provide an environment that provides care for the individual and promotes their ability to make choices about how they wish to live.” She noted that, “St. Andrew’s, BSI Constructors, Inc. the architect firm The Lawrence Group, and Hercules Construction Management Company have joined us in building our 17 million dollar project.”
The Sarah Community offers independent, assisted living, Medicare Rehabilitation, skilled long term care. “Our community has been recognized as providing quality care as evidenced by recognition as one of the top 18 nursing homes in the country out of 15,500 homes, by U.S. News and world Report, in 2011”, said Ron Mantia, Executive Director. “This philosophy allows us to move to the next level; providing excellent clinical care but in their own home with more privacy, independence and encouraging residents to actively participate in their own decisions.”
Adding to the community includes a beautiful new chapel that can be used by all of the residents. Providing an inspirational and accessible space for prayer and worship is a critical component for spiritual care for residents at The Sarah Community.” The new chapel allows for the daily celebration of Mass by the entire community at one time.
The Sarah Community was founded through the collaboration of five Catholic religious congregations – Franciscan Sisters of Mary, Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, School Sisters of Notre Dame, Sisters of Loretto and Society of the Sacred Heart.
